About Us
Compass Academy Charter School is dedicated to empowering students by helping them understand how they learn best and guiding them to take control of their own education. Our mission is to equip students with the skills, confidence, and independence needed to navigate their learning journey effectively.
Through innovative teaching methods and a supportive community, we foster critical thinking, problem-solving, and self-directed learning. We believe that when students take ownership of their education, they develop the lifelong skills necessary for success in academics and beyond. At Compass Academy, we create an environment where every student becomes an active participant in shaping their future.
What Sets Us Apart
Compass Academy Charter School is designed to be different.
We don’t just teach students—we equip them with the tools to understand themselves as learners through the Let Me Learn Process®. This advanced learning system helps students and teachers recognize personal learning patterns, building the confidence and skills needed to learn anything.
The Process:
✔ Understand the Learner – Our teachers are trained to recognize and celebrate each student’s unique learning approach, starting in PreK.
✔ Share This Understanding – We teach students how to collaborate effectively and share this insight with families.
✔ Take Control – By second grade, students begin taking ownership of their learning. By fifth grade, they develop strategy cards that help them tackle assignments across all subjects.
Yes, we teach to the Common Core Standards, but we go beyond. We empower students to become self-directed learners, capable of solving real-world problems and taking charge of their own education. At Compass Academy, students don’t just learn—they learn how to learn.
Making Sense Day
About once a month, students take a break from their studies to learn about the world around them. Teachers collaborate together to create lessons on topics that range from outer space to inner peace and everywhere in between.
Service Learning Projects
We take pride knowing that our students make a difference – and so do our students! Each grade level chooses a project that benefits the community outside the classroom walls. Students develop an enhanced respect for and appreciation of others with a hands on project that they created together, using their very own Learning Patterns! Pictured here, our fourth grade students made blankets for our local Children’s Hospital.
Outdoor Classrooms
Learning doesn’t just happen inside the four walls of a classroom! New to our school is our Outdoor Learning Centers. Thanks to a grant from the Compass Academy Education Foundation, outdoor classrooms were built by teachers, staff and local community members. Some of the “classrooms” our students enjoy are the children’s garden, a sound garden, a Nature Center, reading & yoga areas and so much more!
Pet Day, Vehicle Day, Clubs & Activities
At Compass Academy Charter School, we involve teachers, parents, and the surrounding community in our students learning. On Pet Day, parents, students, teachers and staff are encouraged to bring in their furry (or not so furry) little friends. On Vehicle Day, we invite our local fire & police department, the armed forces and other community volunteers to showcase vehicles and explain what they do.
Clubs, Activities and Assemblies round out our students’ experience. Book Bingo Night, Lego Club, Homework Club and assemblies such as The Funny Farm visit enrich our students’ learning experience in engaging, social, interactive and meaningful ways.
